August is National Clear The Shelters Month!

This August marks the eighth straight year that the good people at NBCUniversal Local are running their nationwide pet adoption and donation campaign. Kicking off on Monday, August 1, and running through Wednesday, August 31, the campaign involves NBC and Telemundo owned and affiliated stations teaming up with local animal shelters and rescue groups to promote pet adoptions and raise badly needed funds for animal welfare.

In a press release, Valari Staab, the chairman of NBCUniversal Local, said, “We are pleased to present our eighth annual Clear the Shelters campaign to help shelters and rescues across the nation with their critical work of finding loving homes for the animals under their care, and inviting communities to donate funds to support their work. Clear the Shelters is a community-driven effort that counts on the support of so many, including our employees, shelter partners, our affiliate stations, and our national sponsors, and thanks to them the campaign has become an important event.”

How You Can Take Part

The easiest way to help is to visit a local shelter and adopt a dog in need. However, we understand that not everyone can take on that responsibility. If you can’t adopt a pupper, you can still show your support by making donations online through Greater Good Charities and The Animal Rescue Site. Both have partnered with Clear The Shelters to host the 2022 fundraising effort – and both are covering all transaction fees to ensure that 100 percent of donations collected go to their intended destinations. Online donations can be made at

To find affiliated shelters in your area, visit the Clear The Shelters website and enter your zip code. That will pull up a listing of participating shelters and animal rescue groups near you. Then it’s just a matter of contacting them to see how you can help.

Help Save Pups in Need

Since 2015, Clear The Shelters has helped more than 700,000 pets find their furever home. Just last year, the campaign raised more than $500,000 for animal welfare causes, with over 140,000 animals adopted. At Pampered Pet Resorts, we fully support any effort to help bring pups to loving homes and eagerly await news that this year’s efforts topped last year’s results.
