Please Join Us in Honoring All Veterans This Veterans Day

All holidays are worth celebrating, especially when you can get your furry friends involved in the fun. However, Veterans Day holds a special place in our hearts. That’s because Joyce Aliaga, our owner, is a veteran herself. After serving four years in the U.S. Navy, Joyce transitioned into a new career as a certified dog and puppy trainer.

Fast-forward 12 years and a relocation from Pennsylvania to Florida, and Joyce now has a wealth of experience managing large facilities for dogs. With that, she’s successfully translated her passions, commitment to excellence, and leadership skills to her team, all in an effort to present your pup with the best possible boarding or daycare experience.

The History of Veterans Day

This day of gratitude originated in 1919, when Woodrow Wilson announced the first Armistice Day to commemorate the end of major hostilities during World War I and honor those American soldiers who paid the ultimate price in that conflict.

Congress eventually declared November 11th a national holiday in 1938, as a day dedicated to world peace. In 1945, Raymond Weeks, a World War II veteran, led a delegation that convinced General Dwight D. Eisenhower to support the idea of expanding the holiday to celebrate all American veterans. In 1954, Congress amended the earlier bill and established what we now know as Veterans Day.

Interestingly, the holiday was observed in October between 1971 and 1977 as part of the Uniform Monday Holiday Act. However, 1978 saw the re-establishment of November 11th as the celebration day.

Thank a Veteran — Including the Four-Legged Ones

While most people think of Veterans Day as another holiday, we firmly believe that everyone should take time out to think of family, friends, and even strangers who’ve served. Naturally, we also extend that to the dogs that have delivered invaluable service and companionship as well.

At Pampered Pet Resorts, we look forward to providing you and your best friend with the most pawsome dog hotel experience in the greater Naples area. Feel free to contact us to learn all about our services!
